Elon Musk announced on Thursday night that he’s considering unbanning Alex Jones on X as a response to request to unban the InfoWars host. A video of Alex Jones confronting Oliver Darcy back in 2018 during the congressional hearing about censorship and Twitter considered it as a harassment and that lead him to be permanently banned.

“In general, since this platform aspires to be the global town square, permanent bans should be extremely rare,” Musk said. Elon Musk decided to hold a poll to determine whether he should unban Alex Jones on X.

He added “Also, if he does say something false on this platform, then Community notes will correct him, whereas that would not be the case elsewhere.”

Ian Miles Cheong held a poll of whether Alex Jones should be unbanned or not, to which many people responded saying yes and Elon Musk responded by saying “I guess a lot of people want him unbanned.”

He also stated that he’ll closely watch Tucker Carlson’s interview with Alex Jones as it’s scheduled to be released on Thursday night.

A X user brought to Musk’s attention that the reason Jones was originally banned by the previous Twitter Gods (before Musk purchased the company), was for violating the platform’s abusive behaviour policy merely because he said CNN host Oliver Darch had the “eyes of a rat.”

Elon Musk then replied by saying “That is certainly not a valid reason for suspension.”
